The facts of sedation dentistry
It Really Works!
You really can relax through your dental appointment.
Dental Conscious Sedation/Anesthesia
For some, going to the dentist can be a frightening experience. How many times have you wished that you
could just sleep right through your appointment? Well, there is a solution at the office of Dr. Rabice.
It is called dental conscious sedation/anesthesia
because with this technique you are aware of where you are,
you maintain your protective reflexes, but you are
so relaxed that you are no longer focused on your surroundings.
Dental Oral Conscious Sedation/Anesthesia
Oral conscious sedation is administered orally in
the form of a pill. With oral administration medicine is taken by mouth about 1 hour before the procedure.
The sedative effect of the pill can last for hours depending on the medication used. The exact effect
of the pill is difficult to determine and it is not as safe or predictable as the intravenous (IV) form of
conscious sedation.
Dental Intravenous (IV) Conscious
Sedation/Anesthesia
IV sedation is safer than oral sedation and is predictable. The exact dose for each patient is determined through a method called titration, where medication is given slowly to the patient until the desired level of sedation/anesthesia is reached.
Also there are medications to reverse the sedation. This
is a safeguard that is not available using oral
conscious sedation. Dr. Rabice is one of a few dentists certified in New York state to perform dental inhalation sedation/anesthesia, conscious oral sedation/anesthesia and dental IV
sedation/anesthesia. He is member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesia.
